Smart Global Drones

Smart Drone Manufacturing

Our aim is to use drones to enable Smart City capabilities. Drones offer an opportunity for better connectivity, efficiency and ingenuity. For example, alerts from IoT sensors could inform drones that medical supplies are needed at a specific location, wherein the drone(s) could pick up and deliver the supplies at the intended location. They offer unique traffic and crowd management solutions as they can move about freely and be allocated easily with minimal infrastructure. Drones could also offer back-up surveillance in areas with poor CCTV coverage or areas where personnel or typical surveillance equipment could not go.

Drones are a relatively new technology despite having been in development since the mid 20th century. They have the potential to be incredibly useful pieces of technology and improve facets of society and industry. They are, however, not without their drawbacks as many current laws strictly control the use of drones commercially. The youth of the technology means it has the potential to be used in many ways in the future but this may require further development of other technologies, such as communication infrastructure, first.

Our other project involves creating a city wide wireless network which allows all citizens to connect to one another and more freely interact with the city. This infrastructure would enable the use of drones to carry out city functions as mentioned previously.

Uses of Drones

Drones can be used in many industries and for many roles within them. The range of technology drones possess and can be paired with is vast, causing drones to be very versatile devices.

The Future of Drones

Drones have much potential and can be adpated for many uses. The technology surrounding traversal, visual detection, mapping, stabilisation and networking offer some very interesting solutions to modern problems. Drones can be fitted with all sorts of things to enhance their operations, be it mapping terrain, managing traffic or delivering items across small distances.

Basic Drone Laws

Drone laws differ from country to country. Before using drones be sure to check with your national aviation organisation. In the UK drones are prohibited from flying outside direct line of site of the operator, flying higher than 122m and flying within 50m of any person or property.
